I've been a huge fan of the Revlon ColorStay foundation for oily/combination skin so when the Nearly Naked range was released, I was interested to try it. Today I will be reviewing the liquid foundation(which is Revlon just calls Nearly Naked Makeup) and the pressed powder.
Just some background infomation: I have very (VERY, VERY!) oily and acne-prone skin. There is quite abit of pigmentation/scarring around my cheeks from previous acne and I am almost constantly breaking out. I can't even remember when was the last time I didn't have a single pimple on my face to be honest. Anyway, on with the review.
Starting with the foundation, I got it in 160 Fresh Beige which was the closet to my skin tone although not an exact match. There are 12 shades available in Australia which is not bad. The packaging comes in a glass pour bottle form with 30ml of product. Was expecting a pump because Revlon recently changed the packaging to have pumps on the foundations from the colorstay line but oh well. The foundation is very liquid-y and blends easily.
Below are some swatches comparing the different shades (I got the other 4 shades in a sample pack from October's issue of CLEO that came with my September Bellabox).

I applied the foundation with my Real Techniques buffing brush and it applies very smoothly. I buffed the first two layers on and then went back in and stippled on areas where I needed more coverage on my third application. As you can see, you can still see quite abit of my scars/pigmentation around the forehead, cheeks and chin and I already applied 3 layers to try and build up the coverage in those problem areas. This foundation is as its name suggest, nearly naked, and gives light coverage but you get a medium coverage by layering it. Here is how it looks after applying the foundation. *please excuse my horrendously messy hair while I'm getting ready.*

Pigmentation and scars still showing through.
Moving on to the powder. I am in the shade 20 Light which matches me very well (surprisingly!). The pressed powder is super fine and feels absolutely velvety to the finger's touch. It gives a very nice matte finish and provides decent coverage. I apply it with a puff for a heavier coverage (as I do with all my powders) and it looks fantastic! Best thing is, this powder does not cake up which is amazing. Of course don't go applying truckloads of it on your face but you know what I mean. Going over it twice with the puff and I still have a flawless finish with no caking.

On the face: Maybelline instant age rewind concealer in Medium, BYS Blush Trio (right shade), The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer
On the eyes: Maybelline eyeshadow quad in Designer Chocolates, Essence waterproof liquid ink eyeliner, Too Faced Lashgasm mascara, Rimmel Scandaleyes eyeliner in Nude, Essence eyebrow designer in Brown, Essence lash & brow gel mascara
On the lips: Rimmel moisture renew lipstick in Vintage Pink
This product isn't the best at oil control (it doesn't claim to anyway) but then again nothing really keeps me matte for more than 4 hours usually. I noticed some shine at about the 3-4 hour mark but I didn't blot my face because it wasn't remarkably oily. The photo below was taken nearly 6 hours after I first applied my makeup and you can definitely see the "sheen" on my nose, cheeks and forehead. My pimples were more obvious because of the light hitting it rather than the foundation losing its coverage.
After 6 hours. |
In direct light, my face shows up super shiny as in the pictures above but it isn't that bad out of the light. I'd imagine if I was indoors, my complexion actually looks pleasantly glowing.
Not looking so much like an oil slick in the shade. |
Although it didn't work well in the oil-control department for me, the foundation did last pretty well. There was no patchiness or spots where the foundation wore off. I could still see my blush at the end of the day and most of my blemishes were still concealed. Overall, I think this is a great foundation if you have non-oily skin with little to no imperfections. Oily-skinned girls can still wear this but just remember to bring your powder out for touch-ups.
For my personal beauty needs, I will stick to my ColorStay foundation because I just need the extra coverage. However, I will definitely repurchase the pressed powder when I'm done with this one. I don't know what is it but the Nearly Naked powder gives just the most flawless finish that neither my ColorStay powder nor Maybelline Dream Matte can. So glad I decided to try it despite the line being called Nearly Naked. Haha!
Both the foundation and pressed powder are available at Priceline and seclected pharmacies for AU$25.95 each. If you have tried this duo, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it! Happy Friday.. xo
