Before I begin, let me just first say that this is a RAVE review! As you can tell by the title, today's post features the all-famous Velvetine by Lime Crime! This product has been so hyped up on within the beauty community on Youtube and blogs, I just had to try it for myself. And boy, it is all that it's hyped up to be. Probably one of the best lip products I've ever tried.
Lime Crime isn't available in Australia, so I ordered my Velvetine online via Beginning Boutique (beginningboutique.com.au). This baby will set you back at AU$21 each. I was lucky to get them on discount when Beginning Boutique had 20% off everything(with no minimum spending) during their birthday week sale so I only forked out AU$16.80 (That's a steal in my opinion because they cost AU$18 even at IMATS Sydney). They offer free express shipping which is fantastic. I placed my order on 3rd October and the package arrived at my door on the 7th.
Order came in a bubblewrap envelop. |

Cute packaging, as always. |

What's Lime Crime without their signature unicorn?! |
The Velvetines come with a doe-foot applicator in a frosted tube packaging. The product is of quite a wet consistency and applies easily on the lips. It applies glossy but dries to a matte finish. To me it just looks matte, I don't think I'll call it a 'velvet' finish.

Here is a lip swatch so you can get a better look at it on my lips.
I applied the Velvetine straight from the applicator for this lip swatch and it looks fine to me. However, I will suggest using a lip brush to apply the edges or outlining your lips with a lip liner if you are after a very precise application. Otherwise, I do think you can get away with using it straight from the tube. The trick is to remove excess product when taking out the doe-foot applicator so you don't apply too much on at first go. By applying a thin layer, it allows the first layer to dry and set faster and prevent feathering around the lips. Once it sets, it feels very light on the lips. It didn't dry my lips out and wore well through eating and drinking. I'd say it lasts well for the whole day(at least 4-6 hours) and there's no need to touch up because the pigmentation is so bold.
This stuff really stays put on the lips! When I rubbed the swatch with my finger, you can see that the colour transfer onto my finger but the swatch didn't budge. Surprising, when I applied it to my lips and pecked the back of my hand, nothing transferred! There was only minimal colour that rubbed off when I kissed my hand multiple times because I was so amazed there was no transfer the first time I tried.
Rubbing will transfer some colour. |
Smooching the hand left barely any mark. |
This is probably one of the most amazing lip product I've ever tried and I highly recommend it! If you're looking the perfect red lip colour, I seriously think this is it! There is currently only 2 shades of the Velvetines but Lime Crime recently announced that there is going to be a new pink Velvetine addition. I must say I'm really impressed with the lip products by Lime Crime so far. Have you tried any other Lime Crime products? Definitely share your other LC favourites with me. (:
