Review: Urban Decay Naked Basics

I've been a huge fan of Urban Decay ever since I got my Naked palette. And by huge fan, I mean owning both Naked and Naked2, their 15th anniversary palette and recently also the Naked Basics palette. This was a gift from my boyfriend which I totally appreciate because I don't think I can justifiy getting this mini palette when I already have both the original and Naked2. Enough talk, let's get into the review...

This palette has been my everyday go-to for eyeshadow last month. Probably due to the novelty of it but I do think that this palette is great for, as the name implies, a basic look. It works for me because I'm studying in the area of exercise science and when people rock up to class, they look 'sporty' and natural-looking. So although I would love to dress up and look pretty in the morning, I tend to play my makeup down alot when I go to uni. And this palette is perfect for it, compared to my original naked palette.

Purchased from Sephora Singapore, SG$42.

Full-sized mirror included.

This palette offers 4 new and exclusive shades* and consist of all matte shades except for one slight satin finish. I got the colour description off their website.

Venus* - soft, off-white (demi-matte)
Foxy - cream bisque
W.O.S* - very light nude
Naked 2* - taupe
Faint - warm, dusty brown
Crave* - deepest, darkest brown/black

The quality of the shadows are really smooth, just like any of their other palettes that I've tried. Pigmentation is also great, except for that Foxy doesn't really appear when I apply to my lid because it is almost the exact colour and my skin. Not a fault of the eyeshadow though but just thought I'd mention it because depending on your skintone, some of the colours(Foxy, W.O.S, Naked 2) may not show up too well.

I had to apply a few layers of Foxy to get it to show up like that.

Overall, I am really happy with this palette and it has definitely been serving me well. Even for someone like me who isn't into the smokey look, I used the black to push-line my lashline so Crave doubled up very well as an eyeliner for me. I also used both Faint and Crave to do my brows a couple of times and it worked fine. I'm just more used to using an eyebrow pencil but if I was travelling, this palette alone would be sufficient to do my whole eye look.

Lastly, if you are asking whether this palette is worth getting when you have either of the previous Nakeds or even both, my take is that this palette is a great complimentary to your collection. I wouldn't say it is a must-have unless you are a matte/no-makeup makeup look kind of girl. I use the Naked Basics palette solely on uni days but I love using the whole range of colours from all my Naked palettes when I go out any other time.

Hope this review helps some of you out there. Thanks for dropping by and feel free to leave any comments on how I can improve my future reviews. Have a great week ahead!
