NOTD: Butter London Petrol Overcoat

I've been loving my new nail colour lately and even matching my eye makeup looks with it all week. The polish that have me totally in love with right now is Butter London's Petrol Overcoat. I didn't really pay attention or even actually remember seeing that this shade is available on Butter's website but lucky for me, I picked it up at Sephora for 50% off! Certain colours from the Butter London range were half price, most were 20% or 30% off. Since Butter polishes are sooooo expensive in Singapore, I looked around first in the half price stash to see if anything caught my eye and boy, did it do just that. Long story short, I got it at Sephora@ION for SG$12 (pat on my back for such a great steal)!

As mentioned, this is an overcoat and Butter has described it as "opalescent sheen of oil reflected in rain" which is quite a true representation in my opinion. On its website it said to be used over other polishes or on its own. I first bought this polish not knowing it is a overcoat but loved it all the same. It certainly is more opaque than Knackered with just one coat on and I do prefer that Petrol has more dimension in its appearance. Now that I know it's an overcoat, I wished I had applied 3 coats instead. I only had on 2 coats in the pictures below as that's how I regularly do my nails, together with my Revlon Colorstay gel-smooth basecoat and Seche Vite dry fast topcoat.

Butter London in Petrol: 2 coats applied.

Not sure if it's the lighting or my poor photography skills but in person, the polish looks alot deeper and richer in colour. It actually looks rather transluscent but I assure you they are not. Even with 2 coats, the bluish-purplely colour was fully opaque.

As expected, this polishes applies like a dream and lasted about 5 days before any signs of chipping. Having worn this as a nail lacquer rather than an overcoat, it works really well on its own. Of course, if you were going to wear it as regular polish, I would recommend 3 coats to really give off the effect of a reflection from oil. Once again, I am more than happy with my purchase and am super glad to add it to my collection. (:

Review: Maybelline Colorshow Crayon Khol in Shiny Beige

On my recent trip to Watsons, I decided to pick up the Colorshow crayon khol that I've been eyeing. I first saw the stand a couple of weeks back, swatched them in store and am super impressed by their staying power. To my knowledge, Maybelline released 9 shades for this line in Singapore and the price tag on these are really affordable at only SG$8.90 each!
Maybelline stand at my local Watsons featuring all 9 shades.

The colour that I am most excited about is Shiny Beige, which is the champagne shade because it's not just a nude or white. It is shimmery but I think it actually really works well to brighten and make my eyes look bigger. This liner is super sleek and thinner than most pencils, which is what I love about it. Even the actual product is fine-tipped which makes application really easy.

Super fine tip, perfect for lining the waterline.
Swatch on my hand.

As you can see, it has the most natural highlighting effect on my waterline (almost could not tell I had the liner on when I was uploading the pictures). It applies easily as well and stays put for several hours. I won't say that it lasts all day but you can count on it to stay on for 4-5 hours. For me that is pretty good as nothing seems to last on my waterline, not sure because my eyes are constantly teary or because of the oils.

If you don't have problems with pencil liners smudging on you, the Colorshow crayon khol pencils are definitely worth checking out. I might even go out and get the green, purple and blue, although honestly I would love every shade in my collection. Haha! Hope you enjoyed this review, till next time. xo Kristy.
